  3.                         BOOT DISK INSTRUCTIONS

  6. Sierra On-Line's Technical Support department prepared the following
  7. instructions as an added service to our customers.  PLEASE NOTE:
  8. NEITHER SIERRA NOR DYNAMIX MAKE ANY CLAIMS, GUARANTEES, AND/OR
  9. PROMISES THAT THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS WILL WORK ON ANY AND/OR ALL
  10. COMPUTER SYSTEMS.

  12. Many people have trouble finding enough free memory to run Sierra's
  13. newer games. The best solution is to make a Boot Disk.   A Boot Disk
  14. is the most elegant, temporary way to create a simplified and optimal
  15. environment in which to run Sierra games. These instructions are only
  16. for 386 or 486 computers using DOS 5.0.
  17.  
  18. To make a DOS 5 Boot Disk, format a High Density diskette in the A:
  19. drive.  (Use DOS 5.0's /F:360 or  /F:720 parameter if using a low
  20. density diskette)  Note: this will not work in the B: drive.

  22. FORMAT A: /S
  23.  
  24. Now create a CONFIG.SYS file by typing the following from the A drive:
  25.  COPY CON CONFIG.SYS <ENTER> (the cursor will drop down one line and blink)
  26.  DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
  27.  DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM
  28.  FILES=30
  29.  BUFFERS=30
  30.  STACKS=0,0
  31.  BREAK=ON
  32.  DOS=HIGH,UMB
  33.  
  34. Complete this file by pressing the  F6  function key  <ENTER>
  35.  
  36. Now create an AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
  37.  COPY CON AUTOEXEC.BAT <ENTER> (the cursor will drop down one line)
  38.  PROMPT $P$G
  39.  LH C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.COM
  40.  
  41. Complete this file by pressing the  F6  function key  <ENTER>
  42.  
  43. Note: The Mouse may be in a subdirectory other than C:\MOUSE, and the
  44. file may be named something other than MOUSE.COM.  In those cases
  45. substitute the correct Mouse information for the commands above.  If
  46. you're not sure where the mouse is or what it is called, check the
  47. AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS file on the hard disk drive for clues.

  49. Reboot your computer with the Boot Disk in your A: drive.  Switch over
  50. to your hard disk drive, change into the game subdirectory and start
  51. the program normally. Think of this Boot Disk as your Sierra Game
  52. disk.  When you want to play a game simply put the disk in your A:
  53. drive and reboot your computer.
